Our Teachers

Music Together® teachers are united by a common passion: sharing the joy of music with children and families in our community!

All Music Together teachers have successfully completed the live Music Together® Teacher Training, which is built on research in early childhood and music development. We keep our skills fresh through workshops every semester and advanced trainings offered by Music Together Worldwide.

Karen Crane is the director of Music Together of Davis. Passionate about music and dance from a young age, Karen began playing the accordion in elementary school (a traveling salesman from a local accordion school knocked on her parents' door, and the rest is history!). She later took organ lessons, as well as tap and ballet classes. As an adult she has sung and performed for many years in community choruses, and currently is a member of the Davis Chorale.

Karen received her MSW from UC Berkeley, and has extensive experience organizing social, educational, and community service programs. She became inspired by Music Together's innovative approach to early childhood music education while attending classes in Berkeley with her infant daughter, Molly. Karen completed her training in the summer of 2002; she is a registered Music Together teacher, as well as a licensed center director. In 2009 Karen was awarded Music Together Certification Level I by the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, NJ, for outstanding achievement in teaching, musicianship, program philosophy, and parent education.

In addition to teaching Music Together's Mixed-Age classes, Karen also is trained in the specialized curricula for Babies and Rhythm Kids; and she is excited to begin co-teaching Music Together Sing Shalom with Jody. Molly, now a college sophomore, is studying psychology and child development while working as a nanny.

Jody Harcourt grew up in Montreal; she began playing recorder at her desk along with her classmates in Grade 1, and hasn’t stopped since. She played euphonium (a brass wind instrument pitched an octave below the trumpet) in the high school concert band. Like us all, she has been singing since birth!

Jody graduated from The Dawson Institute of Photography in Montreal with a degree in commercial photography. She moved to New York where she worked professionally in the advertising photography field as Anthony Edgeworth’s first assistant/studio manager, producing ad campaigns, magazine editorials and a book for Doubleday on the United States Marine Corp.

Jody discovered Music Together® right after moving to Pleasanton, CA with her husband and three daughters. She is a Registered Music Together teacher in her 18th year of teaching the Music Together program. Jody has earned the prestigious Certification Level 1 qualification from Princeton's Music Together Center For Music and Young Children, for outstanding achievement in teaching and articulating the program.

Jody is specially trained not only in teaching Music Together Mixed-Age and Babies classes, but also Rhythm KIDS, Music Together Sing Shalom and Music Together Guitar for Adults. She plays piano, guitar and recorder in her classes, and brings energy and exuberance to toddlers and parents in the delight of songs, rhythm and dance. Jody teaches Music Together in Pleasanton and is the director of Music Together of Tracy, offering classes in Livermore & Tracy.

A silver lining of teaching classes online, is that Music Together centers are able to collaborate with one another, and broaden the community of families we serve! During the Winter 2021 session, Karen (Music Together of Davis) and Jody (Music Together of Tracy) are team-teaching in order to offer both a Babies Class (for infants birth through 8 months) and Music Together Sing Shalom (a mixed-age class that celebrates Jewish themes, holidays and culture).
